MAKING MICHIGAN: The People’s Food Co-op
The Co-op difference in Kerrytown, Ann Arbor
People's Food Co-op is more than a quaint, local grocery store. It is an anchor business in Ann Arbor's Kerrytown area that draws people to that neighborhood on a regular basis. By carrying organic products and selling locally produced food, whenever possible, the Co-op supports a healthy, green lifestyle that many Ann Arborites take very seriously. You don't have to be out of bread to find a reason to visit the Co-op. The attached Café Verde is a neighborhood hangout spot where you can eat a pastry, grab a coffee or just connect with people. The Co-op also reaches out to the community, by presenting in-store educational materials and resources, participating in community events, and sponsoring a schedule of off-site classes on food, health and other related topics. After almost 40 years of business, the Co-op is a well-loved local institution. In a world of impersonal, big box grocery stores, walking into the Co-op feels like being in Ann Arbor. People's Food Coop is located at 216 North Fourth Avenue, in downtown Ann Arbor, and you can visit them on the web, at http://www.peoplesfood.coop/
