Help Protect High Speed and Intercity Passenger Rail Funding

The Senate expects to vote this week on the FY 2012 Transportation and Housing & Urban Development (THUD) spending bill, which includes funding for passenger rail. Although support for passenger rail is growing, during the debate on the bill we may see amendments that reduce passenger rail funding, propose House language forbidding Amtrak to use funds for state-supported lines, or micromanage Amtrak in other ways.

To ensure senate proposed funding levels are preserved, the Congressional High-Speed & Intercity Passenger Rail (HSIPR) Caucus is currently circulating a "Dear Colleague" letter to the Chairmen and Ranking Members of the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on THUD. The letter urges them to support a funding level of $1.48 billion for Amtrak and $100 million for the HSIPR program for FY 2012.

We encourage you to contact your Senate and House members and ask them to sign the letter!

It's easy! Click here, enter your zip code at the bottom of the page and submit the email provided.

The deadline to sign the letter is October 21, act now!
