Governor Snyder’s Message on Transportation: Streaming TODAY at 3:00 p.m.
For the past few months, Let's Save Michigan has been helping its readers share their vision for transportation in Michigan--and it's been leading up to today. Governor Snyder will provide his vision, and you can watch the speech, and Lawrence Tech, live at 3:00 p.m. It will be streaming here.
We'll be watching for some particular things, and urge you to do so as well:
- First, we want to see that Governor Snyder understands that transportation isn't just about building and maintaining roads--it's about moving people around the state, to the jobs, health care, education, and opportunities they need. Michigan will be most successful when we provide options for everyone.
- We want to see flexibility in funding, so every community can create the transportation infrastructure that meets its unique needs.
- We want planning to be prioritized, so that communities creating options for everyone are rewarded.
- We want fewer silos and better integration of transportation planning with land use and economic development.
- We want to hear a commitment to the full implementation of "complete streets" for Michigan.
- We want to hear a focus on people, not goods, to help revitalize our state.
- We want a plan for a Regional Transit Authority, to provide an efficient, convenient, powerful transit system for southeast Michigan.
In short: we want transportation system to be a strategic tool for Michigan's reinvention and revitalization.
Governor Snyder, we'll be watching!
