DLECTRICITY to Light Up Midtown Detroit

Thanks to the Detroit Design Festival, artists and creative types have been all over Detroit for the past week and Midtown Detroit should expect another influx during the first annual DLECTRICITY festival. The free and open to the public event is October 5th and 6th and will bring together regional, national and international artists to unveil over 35 projects which will illuminate historic architecture in the neighborhood. Installations will include video projection, 3D video mapping, lasers, light sculptures, interactive designs, performance art and more.
The Detroit Design Festival, which wrapped up this weekend, featured events all over the city and over a wide range of disciplines. D:Hive, the College for Creative Studies and Eastern Market were just a few of the many partners hosting over 50 events, including everything from intimate gallery showings to a four mile hopscotch course circling Downtown and Midtown. Both events highlight the great sense of place Midtown Detroit offers, while also providing the opportunity to reimagine places and buildings we might see every day and take for granted. In this way, both are great examples of events as placemaking tools: they activate our public spaces and invite new ideas and interactions, both between participants and space, and, as importantly, among the participants themselves.
